According to the National Center for Education Statistics, MBA degrees are the most sought-after graduate program in the United States. Additionally, a July 2024 report from BestColleges.com reveals that MBA graduates earn, on average, 17% more than other master’s degree holders, with 91% securing employment shortly after graduation. With the average starting salary for MBA graduates at $115,000, Immaculata University’s accelerated, fully online MBA program is gaining popularity since it launched in fall 2023 with 22 students.

Catering to specific interests, Immaculata’s Online MBA program prepares ethical, driven leaders for today’s—and tomorrow’s—workplace. Students can complete the general MBA track or graduate with concentrations in leadership or health care management. A distinctive feature of Immaculata’s program is its strong emphasis on ethics. All MBA students must take “Ethics and Legal Perspectives in Business” so they can integrate integrity into operational decisions and exercise leadership skills and capabilities, including motivating others, leading groups and leading change.

Sarah Dougherty, MBA, SHRM-SCP, an Immaculata instructor for the Business, Fashion and Leadership Department and program director for the MBA, emphasizes the versatility of the popular degree. “It’s a valuable degree to have because you can work in so many different industries and fields,” Dougherty says. “It really doesn’t matter what your interests are; an MBA applies.”

The diverse backgrounds of the first cohort—ranging from accountants to educators and clergymen—underscore this point. Dougherty notes that while the challenges faced by students may vary, the principles taught are universally relevant.

Celestine Tyowua, a Nigerian native, is among the 22 students enrolled in Immaculata’s first MBA cohort. As an associate pastor at a parish within the San Francisco Archdiocese, Tyowua aims to enhance his understanding of parish operations. His journey to Immaculata began when he spotted a church volunteer wearing an “Alumni of Immaculata University” t-shirt. He asked the volunteer more about the university, became Intrigued and decided to enroll. “I took an interest in IU, and here I am today as a student,” he said.

As a 2023 graduate of Immaculata, Timothy Schultice majored in business and sport management while also competing on the men’s basketball team. Now, as a business development representative for TransUnion, he recognizes the potential an MBA holds for advancing his career and has chosen to continue his education through Immaculata’s online MBA program.

“Earning an MBA will enhance my career prospects as I hope to move into a position where I am managing my own team at TransUnion. The skills and knowledge that I am learning in this program will help with this goal,” he stated.

Both Schultice and his classmate Tyowua appreciate the structure and efficiency of the weekly two-hour synchronous classes. Schultice noted that the professors foster an interactive learning environment, emphasizing the practical application of concepts rather than just theory.

“It’s clear that our students value their degrees from Immaculata. With so many MBA options available, it’s truly a compliment that they choose to continue their studies with us. They seem to appreciate the distinctive ‘Immaculata way’ of doing things,” said Dougherty.

The MBA program is competitively priced at $500 per credit (approximately $15,000 total), making it one of the most affordable in the region. The courses, which span seven weeks across five semesters, allow students to complete the program in under two years.
