John moved on to the workforce, but without a degree, he struggled to find jobs. His experience with Immaculata is partly why he is persisting in his education.

Carol Night, Immaculata’s oldest and most cherished tradition, has united the campus community in candlelight and song each year since 1921. What began with students singing carols by the glow of bayberry candles has grown into a joyful celebration with choral performances, instrumental music and participation from alumni.

When Stephen Brandt, now in IU’s K-12 educational leadership Ed.D. program, became principal at Roxborough High, it was on the state’s list of “persistently dangerous” schools. But Brandt and his team began to change the culture of the school.

On Sunday morning, July 22, Immaculata alumna Rene Muth Portland ’75 passed away. Rene played on all three Immaculata Mighty Macs women’s basketball championship teams and went on to a successful coaching career.

Tim Schaffer had studied machining at a trade school. He had worked hard and advanced in the ranks of his company. But he dreamed of having a job with more responsibilities.
