Deployed to Afghanistan in 2007, he suffered a career-ending injury that eventually sent him stateside and out of the Army. After a difficult transition to civilian life due to PTSD, he has a newfound purpose in helping other veterans and is pursuing his B.A. in Psychology.

Tim Schaffer had studied machining at a trade school. He had worked hard and advanced in the ranks of his company. But he dreamed of having a job with more responsibilities.
