Allied Health, B.S. – Surgical Technology

This is a clinical specialty concentration of the Allied Health program.

Surgical technologists are an integral part of the surgical team. They are responsible for preparing the operating room, sterilization, and arrangement of equipment, and patient safety.

Most surgical technologists work in hospitals; however, they may also work in outpatient surgical centers and clinics.

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 5% (faster than average) growth in Surgical Technology jobs.

Program Highlights

  • 5 years of academic coursework at Immaculata, including courses in the sciences and healthcare management and experience in the hospital, prepare students for the clinical program within surgical technology.
  • Students spend approximately two years at the clinical affiliate to obtain training in the equipment, procedures, and patient care protocols used within the surgical suite.

  • St. Joseph University – Lancaster
    • C or above in all courses
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
    • Students must apply to this program in their sophomore year.
  • Reading Hospital
    • C or above in all courses
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
