Allied Health, B.S. – Respiratory Therapy Technician

This is a clinical specialty concentration of the Allied Health program.

Respiratory therapists treat patients who have breathing difficulties due to chronic conditions or medical emergencies, including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, etc. Respiratory therapists work closely with physicians and nurses to develop care plans that include assessment of lung function, administration of medication and/or oxygen, and perform therapies to clear the lungs.

Most respiratory therapists work in hospitals; however, they may also work in nursing homes, acute care facilities, and outpatient clinics.

Program Highlights

• 5 years of academic coursework at Immaculata, including courses in the sciences and healthcare management and experience in the hospital, prepare students for the clinical program within respiratory therapy.
• Students spend 5 semesters at the clinical affiliate to obtain training in the equipment, procedures, treatments, and patient care protocols used within respiratory care.

  • C or above in all courses
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Students must apply to this program in their sophomore year.
