Allied Health, B.S. – Diagnostic Medical Sonography
This is a clinical specialty concentration of the Allied Health program.
Diagnostic medical sonographers utilize ultrasound, a non-invasive image technique, to create real-time images of internal structures in the body. They also prepare patients for procedures, operate the equipment, and summarize the results for physicians.
Diagnostic medical sonographers usually work in healthcare settings, such as hospitals, physician offices, or mobile units. There are numerous specialties in diagnostic medical sonography, including obstetrics/gynecology, vascular, musculoskeletal and cardiac sonography.

Program Highlights
- 3 years of academic coursework at Immaculata, including courses in the sciences and healthcare management and experience in the hospital, prepare students for the clinical program within diagnostic medical sonography.
- Students spend 18-20 months at the clinical affiliate to obtain training in ultrasound procedures, including scanning skills, image analyzation, and patient care protocols.
