Weather-Related Closing or Delayed Opening

Immaculata University may announce a delayed opening or closing in the event of severe weather or other emergencies that impact the operation of the university or your safety.

Decisions related to weather are often difficult to make due to changing weather patterns and predictions. The Executive Administration listens very carefully to weather reports and consults many resources including the National Weather Service, Pennsylvania travel advisories and Chester County Department of Emergency Services. When trying to decide if we should close or remain open due to the weather conditions, we do our best to make these decisions in a timely fashion. For day classes we attempt to make the decision by 5:30 a.m. and for evening classes we will do our best to have the decision made by 2:30 p.m.

Please do not contact Campus Safety to find out if the University is open. The University will use the following avenues to alert you if the institution is closed due to weather or other related emergencies:

• IU Alert – registration is required (see instructions below)
• MyIU – the University’s portal
• The weather alert page on the main IU website
• Facebook and X
• The University ‘s main number – call 610-647-4400 pressing number 8 on the menu or prompts. You will be directed to a recorded message that will give you the University’s status at that time.

If the campus needs to close, due to inclement weather or any other emergency, class content for all colleges will be managed through virtual learning. Should the University decide not to close, classes will proceed on a delayed schedule.

IU Alert

IU Alert is a mass notification system that sends emergency notifications and timely alerts to the Immaculata University community. IU Alert sends announcements via text message and email about weather-related university closings or other emergencies. In order to receive notifications, you must sign up. The University will send an IU Alert test message on September 16, 2026.
