Whether you're a beginner or an advanced musician, the school provides individual and group lessons, small and large ensemble experiences, masterclasses, and more. Participants can study any instrument with either talented university student instructors or Immaculata’s distinguished applied music faculty. As an All-Steinway School, Immaculata ensures that all students benefit from learning and performing on world-class instruments in all studios and performance spaces across our picturesque campus. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, Immaculata University Community Music School is easily accessible to musicians in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Berks counties and beyond.

Overview

The Immaculata University Community Music School (IUCMS) provides an opportunity for children ages 6-18 as well as adults with varying abilities and backgrounds to enjoy private music lessons, group musicianship classes, and solo/ensemble performance opportunities, with instruction by undergraduate/graduate music majors, IU music faculty, and guest artists. Program instruction is provided throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, with additional opportunities to participate in engaging summer music camp programs.

Woman and boy playing guitarsThe music department has been a vibrant part of the Immaculata University campus since its earliest days of the University’s founding in 1920, training aspiring music teachers, music therapists, and musicians to foster a lifelong love of music in a learning environment filled with enthusiasm and enjoyment. With the Community Music School, pre-college students as well as older community members are provided with multiple opportunities to study music on the campus of Immaculata University for private and group music classes and ensembles taught by the music majors and faculty.

Our unique program offers weekly instruction and exciting performance opportunities. IUCMS students progress through various programs in the areas of technique, ear training, music theory, sight reading, music history, technology, and performance. Additional opportunities for small and large ensemble performance are provided for intermediate and advanced musicians to further enhance musicianship.

Lessons

Inspiring a Lifelong Love of Music for All

Immaculata University Community Music School’s unique lesson program offers weekly private instruction, group classes, and exciting performance opportunities. Choose from a wide range of instruments as well as music composition from our talented faculty.

Lessons are private one-to-one lessons with a student and instructor. The course will concentrate on specific topics on applied playing with technique, practicing, repertoire, scales, etudes, and musicianship. Participants will have many performance/recital opportunities within the IUCMS program. All levels are welcome! Instruments available are: Voice, Piano, Organ, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion. Individual Lessons are available weekly for 30, 45 minutes or 60 minute sessions.

Students in 4th-12th grade: advance your musicianship to perform confidently in your school’s ensembles as well as the unique solo and ensemble experiences within the IUCMS.

Adults: Rekindle your previous passion for performing or start fresh with an instrument you always wanted to learn. Lessons, masterclasses, and ensembles put you in contact with other musicians just like you, no matter your ability level or experience.

Important Information

  • Individual lessons are open to students of all ages and experience levels
  • Lessons are available in 30, 45, and 60-minute increments
  • Private and group instruction from experienced music faculty or option for undergraduate/graduate music instructor when available.
  • Lessons are in-person on campus, with virtual/hybrid lessons available at the discretion of the teacher and student
  • Students should own or be currently renting their instrument. Contact Taylor’s Music Store for instrumental rental and purchase option. IUCMS does not provide instrument rental programs.
  • Free parking on campus

Immaculata University Community Music School provides multiple opportunities for performing in small and large ensembles throughout the program. Partnerships with additional organizations allow musicians of all ages and ability levels to find the ensemble experiences that are the best fit for you.

Classes

​The Immaculata University Community Music School offers a variety of group classes for all ages and levels throughout the Fall, Spring, and Summer. Examples of our offerings include Suzuki Institute (4+ years old; guitar, piano, and violin​), Group Ukulele, Music Technology, Childhood Music Experience, Music Theory (high school and adult), Music History/Appreciation (adult), and more.
