Don’t Fall for Email Scams!
There are approximately 3.4 billion phishing emails sent worldwide every day, and 20,000 to 40,000 new phishing websites are created daily to support these scams.
What is phishing?
Phishing is a type of online scam where attackers impersonate trusted individuals or organizations — such as banks, coworkers, or service providers — to trick you into sharing sensitive information or clicking malicious links.
Immaculata University is not immune to these kinds of emails from bad actors. While the University does its best to prevent them from reaching inboxes, it’s important to protect yourself when using email and online tools.
Here are some steps to stay safe:
- Don’t click links from unknown senders or sources.
Always hover over links before clicking to see where they lead. - Verify the sender of the email.
Bad actors often impersonate businesses, family, friends, or colleagues. - Look for misspellings and poor grammar.
Phishing emails often contain awkward wording, unusual symbols, or formatting errors.
If at any time you are unsure if an email is legitimate, do not click links contained within it and forward the email to abuse@immaculata.edu.
