Writing Contest

Annual Gunnard B. Carlson Writing Contest 

This year, we invite students to creatively delve into the theme of “Identity” and explore the multifaceted concept of self. Tell us about the identity you were born with, the one you created, or the one you are still trying to find. Poems, prose, fiction, and narrative essays are welcomed. Original, creative work on all topics is also accepted.

$5,000 in scholarship prize money awarded! Five winners!

• 1st place $2000 (one winner)
• 2nd place $1000 (two winners)
• 3rd place $500 (two winners)

All submissions are eligible to be published in the Spring 2027 issue of Pilgrimages, IU’s literary magazine.
