What do Mission and Ministry Mean?

Dear Immaculata Community,

What does the word “ministry” mean in the context of a Catholic University? Certainly, we understand the importance of Campus Ministry as those who minister spiritually to the students. Ministry primarily has the mission of helping one another to grow in our relationship with God, with self, and with others. It is a formation for life which continues beyond graduation and continues throughout life.

Teachers minister by teaching, parents minister by parenting, doctors and nurses minister in healing ways, and friends minister by being good and wholesome friends who are available to companion one another in the present stages of their lives. It is a gift and a blessing to have a friend who ministers to us throughout our years. Who are your good friends? Think of them by name and consider the gift they are in your life. Friendship is an endearing form of ministry.
