Become a First@IU Mentor

Were you the first in your family to attend college? Or are you passionate about supporting students as they navigate their college journey?

The First@IU Mentor Program is looking for faculty and staff volunteers to serve as mentors for our first-generation college students. Many first-generation students benefit from having a trusted campus connection—someone who can answer questions, offer encouragement, and help them feel that they belong.

What does being a mentor involve?

  • Send a brief monthly email (we provide the content and conversation starters!)
  • Offer an occasional check-in meeting if your student would like to connect
  • Serve as a friendly guide to campus resources and university life

The time commitment is minimal, but the impact can be lasting. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone on campus cares can make all the difference.

If you’re interested in becoming a First@IU mentor or would like to learn more, please contact Kate Kearney by August 10, 2026.  (kkearney@immaculata.edu)

Thank you for considering this opportunity to support the success of our first-generation students!
