Housing Selection
Incoming Students
Incoming first-year and transfer students will complete the necessary housing paperwork via the housing profile provided through New Student Orientation. New students will receive their housing assignment in late July. Only mutual requests for roommates will be approved.

Current Students
1. Complete housing application online through eRezLife
Once it is available in February, you must complete a housing application through eRezLife, accessible through MyIU. Applications must be submitted by the deadline in order to receive a lottery number based on your cohort. To apply, complete the steps listed below.
- Login into your eRezLife account.
- All housing application forms are available under the Housing Overview tab. You will also have a recommended action to 'Apply for housing' that will take you to the housing overview.
- If you haven't completed your housing profile and profile questions, you may be required to complete both the housing profile and housing profile questions before proceeding to the housing application form.
- Follow the on-screen directions.
2. Receive a lottery timeslot from Residence Life and Housing via email
Lottery timeslots are randomly assigned to each class year (current rising seniors first, then rising juniors, and then rising sophomores). You MUST have a lottery timeslot to participate in housing selection. You will receive a lottery timeslot after completing a housing application, which is done online through eRezLife. If you fail to submit your housing application by the assigned date, you will not receive a lottery timeslot. Without a lottery timeslot, you will not be able to participate in the housing selection process. If you are interested in housing but did not apply for a lottery timeslot, contact Residence Life and Housing and you will be contacted regarding available housing after the selection has taken place.
3. Choose your assignment for the upcoming year
Housing selection will occur in April, at which point you will select your residential housing assignment for the upcoming year online through eRezLife.
- Housing selection takes place on a Sunday. Your specific selection time for housing selection is based on lottery time. This is emailed to you in advance of Selection Day.
- Determine which roommate has the LOWEST assigned timeslot in order to determine the time that you should choose your housing.
- Once you are eligible to enter the Room Lottery Process, you will see a “Select your room” button at the top of the Housing Overview page in eRezLife.
- Click the “select” button on an available bed to select your room. You will not be able to make a selection on any unavailable rooms
- A dialog window will open with details of the selected room. Click the button to complete the reservation, or if you have roommates, you'll be prompted to choose what bed each roommate will be placed in.
- Choose the room/bed for each member of your group (if applicable)
- Once your room is confirmed, select a meal plan. Each roommate must log in to select their own meal plan.
- That’s it! Completed Housing Selection!
- From the Current Reservation menu, you can perform different actions such as choosing a meal plan, reassigning beds, or canceling your reservation.
