Undecided?

Not sure what you would like to major in or what career path is right for you? Then “undecided” is a great place to start!

Up to 80% of students entering college admit they do not know what to major in but they declare a major anyway. As many as 75% of students change majors at least once.

As an undecided major, you work with an advisor to satisfy core requirements while exploring the curriculum. This ensures that you are making steady progress toward graduation while taking your time to explore possible fields of study. You can then be intentional about declaring a major at the end of freshman year.

Your advisor will provide you with the tools and the direction to find the major that is right for you by providing resources and activities to help put you on the path to success in your future career. Here’s how it works:

  • You meet with an advisor at orientation in the summer.
  • There is a follow-up meeting with your advisor for undecided students during the first few weeks of classes.
  • During the fall semester, you begin working with the Career and Professional Development Office to explore your skills and talents and how to connect them to a major. You will take personality type and career assessments/inventories and look at job shadowing opportunities to find out what jobs matches your personality, skills, abilities, and interests.
  • Your advisor assists you with course selection for spring semester and helps you explore your major options.
  • You will declare a major as soon as you are ready or by March of your freshman year. Once you have decided upon a major, your advisor connects you with advisors in that academic department.
