Middle States Update

February 16, 2024

I am excited to share we submitted the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Self-Study on February 9. The self-study is available for your review on MyIU (go to “University Documents" and then “Self-Study Report”).

Immaculata University began the self-study journey in August 2021 with the announcement of Sister Judith Parsons and Dr. Kelly Stalker as co-chairs of the self-study. Over the last 2½ years, the Immaculata community has been engaged in the process through participation in the Steering Committee, Work Groups, Winter Warm-Ups, development of the self-study design, preparation for the preliminary MSCHE site visit and creation of a self-study report that reflects the mission and values that Immaculata espouses. The document tells our story and highlights the community spirit of Immaculata; the level of collaboration and collegiality is evident throughout the narrative.

Immaculata University will host eight site visitors designated by MSCHE Sunday, March 24–Wednesday, March 27. Immaculata’s coordinating team will prepare the campus for the site visit through virtual sessions to review the process, the seven standards and suggestions for engagement with the site visitors.

All University stakeholders are invited to the Exit Report scheduled for Wednesday, March 27; additional details will be sent after the time and location are confirmed.

The last sentence of the self-study report is reflective of our community in stating, “The energetic engagement of the entire community throughout the self-study process underscores and strengthens Immaculata’s intentional, strategic efforts to be a force for positive change and transformational education.” Thank you for your engagement with the MSCHE process and self-study report and beyond that, for your contributions everyday.

Dear Immaculata community,

Now that the spring semester is complete, I want to provide you with an update on the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation review and site visit.

Over the past year, the co-chairs, steering committee members and work groups have been busy working on the self-study report in preparation for the reaccreditation self-study evaluation visit. The MSCHE accreditation process requires that the University demonstrate the institution’s compliance with the MSCHE Standards for Accreditation. This fall, the campus community will be invited to presentations provided by steering committee members that will review Immaculata’s response to the Standards.

This exercise is in preparation for the MSCHE site visit, which is scheduled for March 24-27, 2024. The chair of the team who will conduct the Immaculata accreditation site visit is Dr. Elizabeth Paul, president of Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. Dr. Paul’s preliminary campus site visit is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023. The preliminary visit provides Dr. Paul with an opportunity to engage with campus stakeholders, provide feedback on the draft schedule for the full team visit and confirm that Immaculata is prepared for the scheduled visit.

I’ll share additional information with you prior to the upcoming visits.

Thank you for your commitment to the MSCHE project and for your continued service to Immaculata.

Sincerely,

Barbara Lettiere
President
