First-Year Seminar Students Visit Amazon Fulfillment Center

Recently, students in “First-Year Seminar: The Rise of Amazon” had the opportunity to see supply chain management come to life inside one of Amazon’s largest fulfillment centers — Amazon EWR4 in Robbinsville, New Jersey, just outside Newark.

They took a chartered bus with 20 students to witness firsthand the “Beast of the East” in action — a massive robotics-sortable facility where cutting-edge automation and human expertise work side by side to fulfill millions of customer orders.

Students experienced how robots transport entire towers of inventory, how conveyor systems connect every corner of the building, and how real-time data and process design ensure speed, accuracy, and scalability. It was an eye-opening experience that connected supply chain strategy, logistics coordination, and automation to the real world of global e-commerce.
