Endowed and Non-Endowed Scholarships
Provided through special funding, Immaculata University annually awards a number of scholarships to students who meet the specific qualifications and have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Book Scholarship
Ann and Tim McCarthy Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1986 in memory of long-time Immaculata University Treasurer’s Office employee Anne McCarthy and her husband, Tim. This is a book scholarship awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.
Business Scholarship
Business Advisory Board Scholarship
The Business Advisory Board awards this scholarship to Immaculata’s Business and Accounting Department majors in recognition of their outstanding potential. Recipients must be continuing full-time freshmen or sophomores and must have a GPA of 3.0. For more information on this scholarship, please reach out to the department chair.
Education Scholarship
The Florence Krupp Pahides ’71 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Peter and Susan P. Schultz in November 2021. It supports a student majoring in Eduation, the Sciences or pursing the medical field. The student must demonstrate a strong work ethic and history of doing community service. The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming first-year student who has graduated from a public or Catholic high school. The scholarship is renewable up to four years as long as the student maintains a GPA of 3.0.
The J. Thomas Drogan Endowed Scholarship
In 2025, the estate of John and Ethel Drogan established The J. Thomas Drogan Endowed Scholarship to support students taking Special Education classes. Specific criteria: This scholarship will be awarded to a freshman student, enrolled in the College of Undergraduate Studies, majoring in Special Education.
Fashion-Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship
Sister Marie Albert Kunberger, IHM and Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in April 2013 by Joanne Salop and Mary Wehrmann in memory of Sister Marie Albert Kunberger, IHM ’51. It is to be awarded to an undergraduate who majors in Fashion-Family and Consumer Sciences and maintains at least a 3.0 average.
General Scholarships
LaVerne and Kathryn Tucker Alexander ’31 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in May 2002 through a bequest of LaVerne J. Alexander and Kathryn Tucker Alexander ’31. The scholarship is to be awarded to students who are academically qualified and in need of financial assistance.
Sister Marie Antoine, IHM Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in March 1985 by Sister Marian William Hoben, IHM, President of Immaculata University from 1982 to 1992 in memory of Sister Marie Antoine Buggy, IHM, President of Immaculata University from 1972 to 1982. The scholarship is to be awarded to students with academic achievement and financial need.
Class of 1939 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1989 by the Class of 1939 on the occasion of their 50th anniversary. The scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.
Class of 1948 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by the Class of 1948 on the occasion of their 50th reunion. The scholarship is to be awarded based on academic achievement and financial need.
Class of 1960 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1985 by the Class of 1960 on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. It is to be awarded based on academic achievement and financial need.
Class of 1963 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by the Class of 1963 on the occasion of their 35th reunion. It is to be awarded to a student of exemplary character, academic achievement and financial need.
Dolores Wiza Conoscento ’52 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2000 by Dolores Bozzelli ’52 and the Class of ‘52 in memory of Dolores Wiza Conoscento ’52. It is to be awarded based on financial need.
Sister Cor Immaculatum, IHM Scholarship Fund
This is a non-endowed scholarship intended to benefit a rising senior commuter, to help them complete their studies. Preference to female students.
Charles Q. and Cecilia DeLuca Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in January 2017 through a bequest of Cecilia M. DeLuca. The scholarship is intended to provide all or part of the tuition for at least one full-time student each year and is renewable provided the student demonstrates financial need and maintains a GPA of at least a “B”. DeLuca Family members given priorty in the awarding of this scholarship. DeLuca Family members must be direct descendants of the parents of either Charles Q. Deluca or Cecilia DeLuca.
Charles and Maris Denny Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in June 2016 by Sharon Denny ’65, M.D. in honor of her parents, Charles and Maris Denny. The scholarship is to be awarded to a freshman student with financial need and is renewable provided the student maintains full-time status and a GPA of 3.0.
di Toro Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in June 1993 by Jeanne di Toro ’47 and Stella di Toro ‘39 as a memorial to the di Toro family and especially to their mother, Antonietta Cipollone di Toro. It is to be awarded to a deserving undergraduate or graduate student.
Draper-Walsh Endowed Service Grant
This scholarship was established in September 1996 by Mimi Draper Walsh ’63. One annual $7,500 award is given to a traditional student each year who has given service to their church, school, and/or community and have shown promise of continuing that service in their university years. The scholarship is renewable each year for four years.
Theresa K. Fagan ’39 and Estelle Fagan Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in October 1990 through a bequest of Theresa K. Fagan ’39 in memory of her and her mother Estelle. The scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.
Jane M. Feely Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 by Jane F. Feely Guzikowski ’50 in memory of her mother, Jane M. Feely. It is to be awarded to a student based on academic achievement and financial need.
Sister George Endowed Scholarship
To honor the life and legacy of Sister George, this endowed scholarship, was established by Immaculata University with a gift from the Estate of Virginia Harmon with gift. The scholarship will be used to support a Catholic School Teacher who is a graduate or doctorate candidate, preferable in the field of education. The student must demonstrate a strong work ethic and academic ability. Criteria: The Scholarship will be awarded to a Catholic School teacher. It is renewable for up to 4 years if the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 and remains in service preferably with a Catholic School.
Jane M. MacDermott Scholarship
This scholarship was established in April 2010 by a bequest of Jane M. MacDermott. It is to be awarded to a student based on academic achievement and financial need and is renewable.
Margaret Mary McHugh ’89 Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in May 2011 by Henry J. McHugh in honor of his wife, Margaret Mary McHugh ’89. This scholarship is intended to benefit a student who has financial need and meets the academic standards set by the University.
Donor funding must be received before this can be awarded.
Charlotte W. Newcombe Scholarship for Mature Students
Eligible students are 25 years of age or older, working toward their first bachelor’s degree, and have demonstrated financial need. All candidates must have completed at least half the coursework toward their intended degree and may be enrolled part-time or full-time. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Full-time IU employees are not eligible.
Monsignor Hugh J. Nolan Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in December 2001 by Cheryl Dever Rapp ’85, the grandniece of Msgr. Hugh J. Nolan, along with her husband Kevin Rapp and her mother Joanne Dever. The fund recognizes the life and work of Msgr. Nolan, former chaplain of Immaculata, author, and pastor. The scholarship is to be awarded based on academic performance and financial need.
Dr. Desmond J. Nunan Sr. and Rev. Francis J. Walsh Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 with a gift from Gertrude V. “Dolly” Falini-Nunan ’50. The scholarship is in honor of her husband, Dr. Desmond J. Nunan, Sr. and Rev. Francis J. Walsh, Chaplin at Immaculata and professor of theology and speech. Rev. Walsh influenced Dolly to remain at Immaculata and complete her studies. Awarded to students who are self-reliant and interested in learning.
Agnes O’Donnell Scholarship
This scholarship was established in June 2011 through a bequest of Agnes O’Donnell to provide scholarships for students majoring in science or humanities.
J. Robert O’Donnell Scholarship
This scholarship was established in December 2010 through a bequest of J. Robert O’Donnell to provide scholarships for students majoring in science or humanities.
Shirley Pinola Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is to be awarded to a student who has financial need. Preference to female students.
Reverend Bernard Ransing Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in December 2014 by Kathleen Sullivan Cosgrove ‘60 in memory of her uncle, Reverend Bernard Ransing, who was a priest for the IHM congregation. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student who has financial need.
Helen A. Sharpe ’36 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in July 2002 from a bequest of Helen A. Sharpe ‘36. It is to be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.
W.W. Smith Charitable Trust
This scholarship was established in July 1997 by the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust. The scholarship is to benefit students with a current GPA of at least 2.5 and financial need. Outside funding must be provided before this can be awarded.
Fred Travaglini and Barbara Travaglini ’91 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in June 1991 by Barbara Tavaglini ’91 and her husband Fred Travaglini. It is to be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.
Trieste Musa Rao ’37 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in February 2007 from a bequest of Trieste Musa Rao ’37. It is to be awarded to students with high academic achievement and financial need.
Louis and Madeleine Vassalotti Scholarship
This scholarship was established in November 1997 by Dr. Margaret J. Vassalotti Gottlieb ’46 in memory of her parents, Louis and Madeleine M. Vassalotti. It is awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.
Antonina Rossomando Verdiani Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by in October 2007 by Vincent L. Verdiani in memory of his mother, Antonina Rossomando Verdiani. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving undergraduate or graduate student who needs financial assistance.
Catherine Walsh and Helen Walsh Kramer Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2007 by Mary Louise Cassidy Kramer, Esq. ‘70 and her husband Dr. John Kramer in memory of Dr. John Kramer’s aunt and mother to help a financially needy student who meets the academic standards set by the University.
Liberal Arts Scholarship
Mary Ann Scheuhing ’68 Ph.D., J.D. Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in June 2010 by Madeleine Long, M.D. in memory of her friend, Mary Ann Scheuhing ’68, Ph.D., J.D. It is intended for needy students studying the Arts, Education or Languages.
Management and Leadership Scholarship
Dr. Brian A. Petersen Management and Leadership Endowed Scholarship
The sholarship was established in January 2022 by the family of Dr. Brian A. Petersen. It will be used for a graduate student in the Management and Leadership Program who demonstrates financial need and maintains a 3.2 or better grade average while enrolled at Immaculata University.
Scholarships Based on Location or School
Eleanor Mahoney Apgar ’61 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in February 2021 by Brian Apgar in memory of his mother, Eleanor Mahoney Apgar ’61. The scholarship is to be awarded to an incoming first-year student or incoming transfer student who has graduated from a Catholic high school. Secondary consideration is for an incoming student with demonstrated financial need. The Scholarship is renewable up to four years as long as the student maintains a GPA of 3.0.
Kathy Burke ’79 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1985 by Paula and John Burke, parents of Kathleen F. Burke ‘79, who died in 1981 in a plane crash. The scholarship is to be awarded to qualified students with high academic achievement from the state of Georgia, or to students from any geographical area where IHMs are present or have had some influence, provided a diligent search of Georgia candidates has first been made.
Suzanne C. Earley ’42 Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in December 2011 through a bequest from Suzanne C. Earley ’42 to support an ‘upstate’ Pennsylvania student who has financial need. Preference given to female students.
Monsignor Maurice M. Hassett Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1941 at the request of Monsignor Maurice M. Hassett, former principal of St. Edward's High School in Shamokin, PA. The scholarship is available to students who graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School in Shamokin, PA or those who attended an IHM school within the Diocese of Harrisburg.
Jacqueline F. Lacoste Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is awarded to a student who is or was at any time a resident of the State of Maryland with an expressed interest in a major or minor in any field of history. Preference to female students.
Margaret McKelvey ’28 and Eileen ’29 McKelvey Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 with an initial gift of $20,000 to honor James and Mary Sexton McKelvey, parents of Margaret McKelvey ’29 and her sister Eileen McKelvey ‘29. First preference will be giving to qualified students from the Roman Catholic dioceses of Trenton or Camden, New Jersey. If candidates cannot be found in that area, search will expand to elsewhere in NJ.
St. John Neumann Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in September 2014 by Bernadette Maguire ‘57. First consideration for this scholarship goes to graduates of an archdiocese high school located in the city of Philadelphia with academic ability and financial need. If no students are available, the geographic restriction will be expanded to include graduates of an archdiocese high school located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Delaware, who have academic ability and financial need.
Catholic Philopatrian Literary Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in October 2010 by the Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute. This scholarship may be awarded to up to three students with high academic achievement and character with preference given to Catholic students from the Philadelphia area. Outside funding must be provided before this can be awarded.
Jessica Lee Ricciardi Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in November 2006 with a gift from Robert and Nancy Ricciardi, the parents of Jessica Lee Ricciardi, a student in the College of Adult Professional Studies who died at the age of 22. Originally, the scholarship was awarded to a graduate of Great Valley High School, Bradford High School, York Suburban High School or Cheshire Academy, Cheshire, CT, but has been expanded to include out-of-state students.
Monsignor William J. Wall Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1942 through a bequest of the Wall family in honor of Monsignor William J. Wall. Awarding is based on academic achievement to candidates from any Catholic high school or academy.
Music Scholarships
Borrelli Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in October 1990 by Dr. Nicholas Borrelli in memory of Rocco N. and Sara J. Borrelli, the parents of Dr. Nicholas Borrelli and Sister Barbara Miriam Borrelli, IHM. The scholarship is to be awarded to a junior or senior music major giving evidence of outstanding development in the area of performance.
Almira M. Doutt Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in November 1989 in memory of Almira M. Doutt, the mother of Sister Kathleen C. Doutt, IHM, professor of music at Immaculata. The scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior music major who has financial need, has proved him/herself to be an accomplished musician and is a good student. The recipient is selected by the music faculty and is renewable.
Jacobs Music Steinway Award
This annual award was established in 2013 with a gift from Jacobs Music, Inc. It is presented to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding pianistic ability, musicianship and artistic and academic scholarship. Recipient receives funds in August. Donor funding must be received before this can be awarded.
Joanna Cahill McLaughlin ’60 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in November 2006 by Joanna Cahill McLaughlin ’60. The scholarship is intended to support a qualified music major who is involved in theater/performing arts.
Presser Foundation CUS Scholar
This scholarship was established in April 2012 by the Presser Foundation. This scholarship is presented to an outstanding student majoring in music at or near the end of the student’s junior year. The student is known as the Presser Scholar during their senior year. Outside funding must be provided before this can be awarded.
Trieste Musa Rao ’37 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in February 2007 from a bequest of Trieste Musa Rao ’37. It is to be awarded to students with high academic achievement and financial need.
Cheryl J. Thatcher ’99 Scholarship
This scholarship was established in August 1999 by Dr. James J. Thatcher in memory of his wife, Cheryl J. Thatcher ’99. It is to be awarded to a music therapy student.
Scholarships for Excellence in Written Communication
Jada Gallagher ’93 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 in memory of Jada S. Gallagher, a distinguished graduate of the Class of 1993, by her family and friends. This is to be awarded to a deserving sophomore, junior or senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who has given evidence of outstanding talent in written communication. Candidates should also submit a formal proposal that will include their long-term goals. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient continues to maintain academic excellence.
Gunard Berry Carlson Creative Writing Fund
Created in 1993 by Barbara Travaglini ’91, and funded by the Gunard Berry Carlson Memorial Foundation, this is a creative writing contest to acknowledge excellence in creative writing and to encourage Immaculata students to develop imaginative writing skills. Winners of the contest receive cash awards and tuition grants.
Science Scholarships
Sister Jane Anne Molinaro, IHM Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship awarded to a student who majors in a science field and has financial need.

Dr. Lina G. Vardaro Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Created on December 20, 2021 by Dora J. Vardaro '58 to honor the life of Dr. Lina G. Vardaro, this scholarship supports students with financial need, majoring in one of the STEM sciences, and who maintain a B+ average or better while enrolled at Immaculata University.
Peter, Betty and the Girls Scholarship
This Scholarship was established by Dolores Wiercinski '85 on November 30,2021. It is awarded to an incoming Freshman student who in a high school 3.5 GPA , and is interested in majoring Math, Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science. The student needs to demonstrate an interest in volunteering or community service and has participated in Athletics, preferably a two-sport athlete. The Scholarship is renewable up to 4 years if the student maintains a GPA of 3.2.
Nursing Scholarships
Alice Leisch Guarino ’07 B.S.N., ’10 M.S.N. Endowed Scholarship Fund for Nursing
This scholarship was established in February 2017 by Carl A. Guarino, Jr., Esq. in memory of his wife, Alice Leisch Guarino ’07. It is to be awarded to a returning continuing education or graduate nursing student with financial need in the RN to BSN, ABSN, or MSN graduate nursing program with a GPA of 3.0. The student recipient will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid and the head of the Nursing Program or their designee.
IBC Nursing Division Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Independence Blue Cross’s Nurses for Tomorrow initiative. It is intended for students enrolled in accredited master’s in nursing programs (MN, MSN). Outside funding must be provided before this can be awarded.
IBC Nursing Division Undergraduate Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Independence Blue Cross’s Nurses for Tomorrow initiative. It is intended for students enrolled in accredited undergraduate nursing degree programs. Outside funding must be provided before this can be awarded.
Karen Valyo RN Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in May 2021 by Mary Ann Valyo in memory of her daughter, Karen Valyo. The scholarship benefits a sophomore, junior, or senior BSN student with a 3.2 GPA and financial need. The scholarship will be awarded each year to the same student if the GPA is maintained.
Study Abroad Scholarship
Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Endowed Scholarship in Memory of the Irish Souls of Duffy’s Cut
This scholarship was established in November 2016 by The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick for the Relief of Emigrants. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who will study abroad in Ireland.
Nutrition Scholarships
Judith Debnam Breen Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in June 2014 by Dr. Francis Breen, Jr. in honor of his wife, Judith Debnam Breen. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student in the Nutrition Education, MA program in the College of Graduate Studies who has been accepted into the Dietetic Internship. Students must meet the following criteria: 1. Preference should be given to a student with a culinary background or other strong interest/experience in food quality and aesthetics. 2. The student must submit an essay discussing her/his desire to combine culinary/aesthetics aspect of food sourcing and preparation with applied nutrition science and dietetic practice and establishing financial need. 3. Scholarship renewable each year for a maximum of 4 years.The student must maintain a 3.5 or better GPA.
Missy Healey ’79 Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in January 2018 by Mary Healey and Kathy Healey in memory of their daughter and sister, Mary Frances “Missy” Healey Hartdorn. The scholarship is awarded to sophomore students in the College of Undergraduate Studies, majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics, with strong academic credentials and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students whose parents have a history of volunteer service or whose family is active in the Immaculata community. The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent years provided the student maintains an acceptable grade point average, continues as a student majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics and continues to demonstrate financial need.
Leaders in Nutrition
Established August of 2019, this scholarship supports an undergraduate student majoring in Nutrition and qualifies for financial aid. The student recipient shall be a rising sophomore, junior or senior with an overall GPA of 3.2. If the criteria are met, the donor intends to award this scholarship each year to the same student. For consideration, eligible students must submit an essay on why they have selected nutrition as their major to the Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics.
Melanie A. Macko Miles ’69 Dietetic/Nutrition Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in December 2015 by Melanie A. Macko Miles ’69. The scholarship will support a graduate or undergraduate student in Dietetics/Nutrition.
Scholarship for Graduate Students
Sister Kathleen May Burns, IHM Predoctoral Internship Consortium Award
The Sister Kathleen Mary Burns, IHM Predoctoral Internship Consortium Fund is available to provide support to doctoral students in clinical psychology nearing completion of their programs who are participating in an internship at sites that provide clinical services to underserved populations and are unable independently to provide a stipend.
Sister George Endowed Scholarship
The Sister George Endowed Scholarship is available to support a graduate or doctorate candidate, preferable in the field of education. The student must demonstrate a strong work ethic and academic ability.
Criteria: The Scholarship will be awarded to a Catholic School teacher. It is renewable for up to 4 years, if the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 and remains in service preferably in a Catholic School.
