BIOGRAPHY:

I have a diverse and extensive professional background in both academic and clinical settings. At Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville, PA, I served as a Senior Social Worker from May 1989 to February 2000, overseeing the hiring, training, and supervision of 15 social workers and case managers. I managed casework services for a 208-bed trauma center, providing support to dialysis, oncology, geriatric, HIV/AIDS patients, and more. My role included crisis intervention, discharge planning, and community referrals.

At Beaver Creek Elementary in Downingtown, PA, I was a Practicum School Guidance Counselor from December 1995 to May 1996, responsible for counseling, classroom guidance, teacher consultations, and parent counseling. At Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown, PA, as an Intern Social Worker from September 1988 to May 1989, I delivered social work services across all units. Additionally, I served as an Intern Family Therapist at Family and Children Counseling in Allentown, PA, from September 1989 to May 1988, managing complex projects and ensuring timely completion.

At IU, I instruct classes in Sociology, Criminology, and Social Work, assist with faculty hiring, and mentor new faculty. I developed and organized the Annual Career Fair, chair the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society, and complete Accreditation Assessment Matrixes. I created a new minor in Digital Forensics and developed courses such as Social Problems, Victimology, Sociology of Deviance, and more. I advise over 60 students annually, transitioned classes to online formats during the pandemic, and supervise student interns. I also serve as a Sepche’ Developer for University Grants.

Research Interests:

To keep my classes current and informative, I focus on a range of relevant topics that meet my classes requirements. I continue to explore police reform, community policing, and the impact of technology on law enforcement, as well as the rise in cybercrime and measures to combat it. Also continue to examine social justices, mental health issues within the criminal justice system, and the latest developments in immigration and border security. Other classes I need to investigate trauma-informed care for crime victims, the long-term impacts of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and the role of victim advocacy organizations. I also staying updated on emerging trends such as the influence of current events. Additionally, focus on innovative teaching methods, promoting diversity and inclusion in education, and the effectiveness of online and hybrid learning models. These topics ensure my classes remain relevant and provide my students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary issues and developments.
