Reflections

Dear Immaculata Community,

Our reflection today comes from the first letter of Peter (4:12-19) and we hear it in the Alleluia verse. “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation; announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

St. Peter summarizes so well the meaning of discipleship.  Almost 100 years ago, a German Protestant theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in his significant book, Cost of Discipleship, argued that true discipleship involves following Christ and conforming to his teachings, even in the face of opposition and persecution. He lived the words of Peter even though it eventually cost him his life. He was executed by the Nazis in 1945, just weeks before the end of World War II.
