Nursing Students Learn Safe Medication Distribution with New Equipment at Immaculata University

Immaculata University’s Department of Nursing Receives Grant for Pyxis Medstation 4000

Immaculata University is pleased to announce that the Division of Nursing has secured a grant of $22,900 from the McLean Contributionship for the purchase of a Pyxis MedStation 4000.

The Pyxis is an automated medication dispensing cart, and is used in medical care facilities across the country. The faculty of the Division of Nursing will be integrating training on the Pyxis into the curriculum for all nursing students in the Bachelor of Science in nursing (B.S.N.) program. This will allow Immaculata nursing students to practice safe medication distribution on current equipment used in the industry.

“Having the opportunity to learn how to work with industry-standard equipment is a blessing for our nursing students – and essential to their academic development,” says Jane Tang, Ph.D., R.N., N.E.-B.C., chair and professor for the Division of Nursing. “I am very grateful that Immaculata received the McLean grant.”

The Mclean Contributionship has previously awarded grants to Immaculata University including a $21,082 grant in 2014 to assist with the purchase of a SimJunior, a simulated nursing patient. The addition of the Pyxis MedStation 4000 will further enhance student learning in the simulation lab. This will enable tomorrow’s nurses to learn the critical skills needed to enter the workforce as healthcare professionals.
