Immaculata News

In conjunction with National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Immaculata University is pleased to welcome the latest speaker in our Preparedness & Resilience Speaking Series, Erik Avakian, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, on Thursday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Loyola Hall, 127. He will be speaking on the topic of Cybersecurity Threats, Trends, and Countermeasures.

Avakian joined the Commonwealth as the Deputy CISO in 2007 and became the CISO in 2010. He has almost 20 years of experience in securing enterprise-level environments and is an expert in reducing risk and mapping security to the enterprise.

“We are privileged to have Mr. Avakian as our next speaker in the Preparedness & Resilience series.  He will be describing the cybersecurity trends that he is monitoring, which will certainly be very eye-opening and informative,” states George Schwartz ’17 Ed.D., assistant professor of Leadership at Immaculata University. He adds that this is the fourth consecutive year that Immaculata has served as an institutional Champion for National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

In response to innovative and growing technologies such as AI, the field of cybersecurity is constantly adapting. Cybersecurity degree programs, such as Immaculata’s Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity, are needed to meet the demand for cybersecurity professionals. This presentation is part of Immaculata University’s College of Adult Professional Studies “Preparedness & Resilience Speaker Series.” These events are always free and open to the public.  Please RSVP directly at https://iucyber.eventbrite.com/ or call (484)-323-3238.
