March 13, 2020 — Update from President Lettiere sent via email to the Immaculata University community:
Dear Immaculata University Community,
The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and all persons affiliated with our University are of the utmost importance. Based on available information on the potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Executive Administration has made the decision to close campus effective 12PM on Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 29. It important to note that at this time, there are no known presumptive or confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Immaculata University. We believe this step is in the best interest of all concerned.
Based upon an assessment of the current situation, we have made a decision to transition in-person on-campus course instruction to online course delivery from March 21 through March 29. All online courses will continue to operate as scheduled. Off-campus classes and internships, practice and clinical rotations will continue as long as the host institution is accepting our students and faculty. Starting next week, students should check their Immaculata email address regularly for important information pertaining to their coursework and information relating to the learning management system (Moodle).
Extended Spring Break cleaning and disinfecting schedule remains in place. Students will still have until 12pm on March 16 to prepare their rooms for disinfecting and obtain personal belongings and learning materials.
Although our University campus will be closed, the expectation is that faculty and non-essential personnel will work remotely through March 29. If you are unable to complete your job responsibilities remotely, please contact your supervisor. There will be certain individuals deemed as essential that will be required to report to work on campus. You will be notified if you are expected to work on campus by your Vice President no later than March 16.
Immaculata University is a member of the Atlantic East Conference. The Board of Directors of the Conference voted to postpone conference play effective immediately. The Board will reconvene on Friday, March 27 to further assess the ongoing situation to determine if conference play can resume. As a result, beginning Monday March 16 all spring athletic competitions are suspended until further notice.
The situation is ever evolving and we are continuing learning new information. We will continue to share information with you as it becomes available.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility. Stay well.
Barbara Lettiere
President
