What do Mission and Ministry Mean?
Dear Immaculata Community,
During the early days of my return to my Alma Mater, someone on staff asked me “What does mission mean?” This was certainly a fair question, so I included a short Mission Reflection in my visit to departments and with students.
In my last assignment, one of my colleagues on the faculty, Roger Schroeder, SVD, gave me a copy of the book he had published on “mission.” Roger is a priest and a member of the Society of the Divine Word, (SVD are their community initials).
The Society of the Divine Word is the world’s largest Roman Catholic order of priests and brothers who focus on mission work. Founded in 1875 by St. Arnold Janssen, the SVDs number more than 6,000 missionaries. Of the ten largest congregations for men, the Society of the Divine Word has been the fastest growing over the past 50 years. I hope to share quotes from Roger’s book on mission on some upcoming Mondays!
Peace to you!
Sister Antoine
