FAFSA is changing. We are here to help!

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is changing for the 2024-25 aid year and Immaculata University wants you to have everything you need to stay up-to-date on the new process.
What is changing?

  • The 2024–25 FAFSA will be available on December 31, 2023. Previously, it was open in October, but will now become available by the end of December. The FAFSA filing deadline for the PA State Grant is May 1st, therefore, we suggest completing the 2024-25 FAFSA between Jan. 1, 2024 – May 1, 2024.
  • The 2024-25 FAFSA will use the 2022 Federal Income Tax year information. ·
  • Students will need to know their contributing parent(s) first/last name, email address, birthdate, and SSN to give them access to their portion of the FAFSA.
  • There will be a streamlined application process including fewer questions and an easier way to transfer tax information directly from the IRS.
  • All users on the FAFSA will be prompted to provide consent. Your signature is your consent to link/pull in your 2022 Federal Tax Information.
  • The term Expected Family Contribution (EFC) will be replaced with the Student Aid Index (SAI) – this is a new need analysis formula used in determining eligibility for Federal loans and grants.
  • The 2024-25 FAFSA will allow up to 20 schools to be listed on the one form.
  • Parents without a social security number will need to create an FSA ID once the FAFSA is available on December 31.

What can you do to prepare?

  • If you have not already done so, students and parent(s) must create an FSA I.D. on https://studentaid.gov/.
  • Since each tax filer is required to provide consent, to pull information directly from the IRS, there will be cases where both parents need an FSA I.D. and password. For example: If parents are married but filing separately, both parents will need to login with their individual FSA I.D.s to give consent.
  • Schedule one of our individual FAFSA meetings, which can be in-person or online. We are offering times every Tuesday in January and every Wednesday in February.
  • Check FAFSA Announcements for regular updates. We will also keep you informed with more information as it becomes available.
  • Contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions and to make appointments to complete the FAFSA.

We understand this process is new and can be confusing, so we are here to help answer your questions at any time! Contact us at Finaid@immaculata.edu or 484-323-3028.
