It is my responsibility to incorporate real-life goals that will impact future counselors in a positive way to have the greatest impact on the counseling profession. My goals for the students are to expand awareness about personal issues while holistically learning about subjects and topics that are of importance to become effective practitioners and leaders. In addition to building efficacy in my students as counselors, which is at the forefront of every class I teach, I also strive to transform them into lifelong learners and consumers of empirical research, to provide ongoing training, and to create a strong identity of the counseling profession. The students leaving my classroom and graduating from the university program should have a strong didactic foundation, while also understanding the practical applications of the counseling profession as it pertains to unique and individual students. By helping students reach their university, education, didactic, experiential, and professional goals addressed in the classroom experience, students should feel assured that they will be not practitioners exclusively, but also leaders in the field of counseling.

As a consumer of research, a producer of research, and one who thoroughly enjoys the process of working with counseling professionals as well as counseling students, my research interests are abundant and my drive to conduct research is very high. My research revolves around a single theme: advancing the counseling profession through inquiries of practical applications in academia and in clinical settings. I also am interested in using new and innovative methodologies to explore thoughts, ideas, and functions of counseling constructs.
