“The Mighty Macs” Movie Featured at the 12th Annual California Independent Film Festival

The inspiring story of the underdog women´s basketball team from Immaculata College who won the first women´s national basketball championship has been turned into a feature-length film called "The Mighty Macs." The film has been accepted into the California Independent Film festival which will be held from April 22 to April 25, 2010, in Orinda, California. The movie will be screened at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, in Theatre 1 at Orinda Theatre Square.
The movie features an all-star cast including Carla Gugino (Entourage, Night at the Museum, Spy Kids) as former Immaculata women´s basketball coach Cathy Rush. Marley Shelton (Sugar and Spice, Grindhouse) and David Boreanaz (Angel and Bones) also are featured in the film. Tony and Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn will play the Mother Superior of Immaculata College. Other members of the cast include Phyllis Somerville (Little Children) and Malachy McCourt (Oz, The Devil´s Own).
The movie follows the struggles of the Immaculata University women´s college basketball team and how Head Coach Cathy Rush, while overcoming numerous obstacles, led the team to victory. This heroic story highlights the accomplishments of a young woman who took a group of girls and taught them to believe.
