Immaculata University’s Spirituality Under the Dome series announces its sixth annual Spirituality Day on Saturday, April 14, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Alumnae Hall on the University’s campus. The Spirituality Under the Dome series seeks to provide space for prayer, and to offer presentations and performances as a way of supporting people’s expressed desire to live in meaningful relationship with God and neighbors. The registration fee is $40 before April 4, and $50 after April 4; lunch is included. Anyone involved in church ministry or service to others is welcome to attend. In addition to offering a selection of nine workshops, the event will feature a keynote address, Life in Easter Nightspring, by Paul Coutinho, S.J., and a performance of Mary Magdalene: A Spiritual Drama in One Act by actress Gina Smith.

Coutinho is an internationally recognized Ignatian scholar, author, and speaker who brings an Eastern flavor to Western spirituality. A native of India and a Jesuit from the Bombay province, he frequently leads retreats, gives spiritual direction, and trains people to practice the spiritual exercises. Coutinho currently creates and runs programs in Ignatian identity and mission for Saint Louis University’s Mission and Ministry office. He is the editor of Ignis—the South Asian Ignatian spirituality journal—and also shares his gifts as the director of Ignatian Spirituality Programs for South Asia. He is the author of How Big is Your God?, Just as You Are and An Ignatian Pathway: Experiencing the Mystical Dimension of the Spiritual Exercises.

Gina Smith studied acting and trained under the direction of playwright and former director of the Great Lakes Shakespeare Theater Festival, Mary Fournier Bill. Her role credits include Desdemona in Othello, Felicity in An Infinite Deal of Nothing and Joan in Joan of Lorraine. Gina has also acted in commercial work for television. She is currently performing several of her original dramas, among them Queen Esther, The Woman at the Well, Elizabeth, Beloved Cousin, St. Anne, The Christmas Angel and Mary Magdalene. In the play Mary Magdalene, viewers will hear about Mary Magdalene’s conversion, her insight into Jesus’ ministry, and his passion, death and resurrection.
