Sister Rita James Murphy, IHM, Joins Board of Trustees of Immaculata University
Immaculata University alumna Sister Rita James Murphy, IHM, has been elected to the University´s Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Sister Patricia Fadden, IHM, president of Immaculata University, praised Sister Rita´s selection. "Sister Rita´s tenacious spirit brought technology into the classrooms of the schools that she led nationwide. A shining example of forward thinking, Sister Rita´s insight and judgment on educational issues will be a great benefit to the students of Immaculata University."
Currently, Sister Rita serves as an elementary school consultant for the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Prior to that position, she was principal of St. Monica School in Philadelphia, St. Rose of Lima in Miami, Florida, and St. Agnes School in West Chester, PA. She began her career as a teacher at various grade schools in the tri-state area and Lima, Peru.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Immaculata University, Sister Rita returned to her alma mater receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. In 1984, she earned her Master of Arts degree in Bicultural/Bilingual Studies from Marywood University. Sister Rita holds memberships in the National Catholic Educational Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Sister Rita will join with other Board members to formulate and direct the general policies of the University.
