New Board Member: Janet Garrity ’78
Immaculata University is pleased to announce that alumna Janet Garrity ‘78, CFA, CTP, of Havertown, PA was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees for Immaculata University. Garrity’s three-year term began July 1, 2014.
For over 30 years, Garrity worked for Verizon Communications Inc. in various capacities. From 1992-2013 she was president and treasurer for Verizon Financial Services and also from 2000 to 2013, Garrity served as Verizon’s vice president for Financing and Cash Operations. During her time in Treasury at Verizon, she negotiated, syndicated, and implemented credit facilities, executed multi-tranche private and public debt issuances, managed interest rate and currency risks and implemented best practices in cash management and banking activities. Garrity began her finance career in 1984 with Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) in various treasury and finance positions.
With her extensive experience within the financial industry, Garrity has volunteered her time with the Association for Finance Professionals (AFP) as vice chairman of the board, chairman of the Investment Committee, and chairman of the Certification Committee. In 2007, she was recognized by the Association as part of the AFP Honors Program which recognizes professionals who have reached the top of their fields. She has also lent her expertise as a member of Mellon Bank Global Cash Management Executive Advisory Board and also Citigroup Global Executive Board. Garrity is a certified cash manager (CCM), certified treasury professional (CTP), and a chartered financial analyst (CFA). In 1989 and 1991, she taught Finance at Immaculata University during the summer semesters.
A native of Newtown Square, PA, Garrity earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Immaculata and continued her education receiving her MBA from Villanova University. She completed the Verizon Leadership Educational Series from Duke University and the Leadership 2000 offered by the Brookings Institute, Kenan Flagler Business School, and the Center for Creative Leadership.
Immaculata University’s Board of Trustees is comprised of both lay and religious leaders in the education and corporate community. As the governing body of Immaculata, the Board understands, endorses, articulates, supports and promotes the mission of the University.
