IU’s Women’s Basketball Team Makes WBCA’s Top 25
ATLANTA – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2011-12 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll on Tuesday, and the Immaculata University women’s basketball team was ranked 24th nationally with a 3.440 grade point average (GPA).
The 2011-12 season marks the third-straight year that Immaculata’s women’s basketball team has been ranked among the WBCA’s Top 25. The Mighty Macs were 11th in 2010-11 with a squad GPA of 3.508 and 19th during 2009-10 with a 3.435 GPA.
The Mighty Macs were led by 15 student-athletes being named to the 2012 CSAC Winter/Spring All-Academic Team, and Leah Kuczynski was also honored on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team.
Immaculata finished the 2011-12 campaign reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Mighty Macs rounded out the season with a 15-12 overall mark, including a 12-4 record in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).
Immaculata is one of two CSAC teams featured on the WBCA Academic Top 25. Centenary College listed 10th in Division III with a 3.522 GPA.
Northland College led all of Division III with a 3.706 GPA, while Case Western Reserve University and Hope College completed the top three positions on the honor roll.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes annually NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College women’s basketball teams throughout the country that carry the highest GPA for the entire season based on nominations by WBCA-member head coaches.
