IU Students Compete in Regional SIFE Event
The Immaculata University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team, consisting of Jaime Lynn Williams, ´05 of Minersville, PA; Algreen Bakasa, ´07 of West Chester, PA; and Lucy Critelli, ´07 of Runnemede, NJ, will compete for cash prizes at the King of Prussia SIFE USA Regional Competition on April 12, 2005. The event is one of 21 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in April.
During this academic semester, the Immaculata University SIFE Team organized a project in the Immaculata community, including intensive market research for the television series "Mission: Organization," sponsored by Nancy Glass Production. This show airs regularly on the Home and Garden Television Network. The theme of the show "Mission: Organization" is to educate homeowners in ways of becoming clutter free in organizing tangible items within different rooms of their homes.
"I feel confident about winning this competition. We are a new team with new creative ideas that will set us apart from the rest of the competitors," states Lucy Critelli. SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on over 1800 university campuses in more than 40 countries. SIFE Teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that teach: market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills, and business ethics. Projects are judged at competition on creativity, innovation, and effectiveness.
According to Algreen Bakasa, "Through our team research, we have created an awareness of financial, entrepreneurial, ethical and communal development. This research has created win/win benefits for students in this community, Nancy Glass Production, and vendors working with the "Mission: Organization" show. By collaborating ideas with my teammates, we have done intensive research to help "Mission: Organization" save time, effort, and money on travel, as well as boosting sales and exposure for local vendors in the communities involved."
If Immaculata University SIFE wins at the King of Prussia SIFE USA Regional Competition, the team will advance to the 2005 SIFE USA National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri held May 22-24.
