The Immaculata Symphony Holds Spring Concert
The Immaculata Symphony will perform its spring concert, "Cultural Impressions" on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumnae Hall Theater on the campus of Immaculata University. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization, with a long and outstanding tradition that stems to the university´s founding in 1920. Music director Roman Pawlowski, now in his 23rd year at Immaculata, will conduct the concert, which includes both students and community members.
This year´s spring concert will begin with Emmanuel Chabrier´s "Espana Rhapsody," and Antonin Dvorak´s "Cello Concerto in B minor," (with Stephen Framil, violoncello). The concert also includes Benjamin Britten´s "Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell." The concert concludes with Ottorino Respighi´s "Church Windows."
Taught by such masters as Mehli Mehta, Pierre Monteux, Max Rudolph, and Erich Leinsdorf, Maestro Pawlowski´s role as director of the Immaculata Symphony allows him to serve as both a performer and teacher. He is also the music director for the Delaware County Symphony and the Newark Symphony Orchestra, and appears frequently as a guest conductor. Cellist Stephen Framil, distinguished as the first American cellist to perform in Hanoi, was educated at Indiana University (Bloomington).
Dr. Framil has studied with many internationally renowned cellists including Janos Starker and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. When not performing, he has lectured and taught master classes in cello and chamber music.
