Lindback Foundation Career Enhancement Minority Junior Faculty Grant. The Minority Junior Faculty Grants encourage and strengthen the academic lives and productivity of minority junior faculty. This grant will support her research entitled, "Work-Family Policies: Relationship to Job Satisfaction and Intent to Stay Among Hospital Nurses."
The proposed research builds on a previous study by this author. The purpose of the proposed research is to investigate the effect of work-family policies on job satisfaction and intent to stay among hospital staff nurses. This proposed research using descriptive correlational survey design will analyze data from Pennsylvania nurses working in hospital settings. Findings from this study will contribute to the body of scientific nursing knowledge related to the issue of nurse retention and turnover. Further, results will provide an evidence base from which nursing administrators can design effective nursing management interventions aimed at alleviating the family-work conflict and promoting retention of experienced nursing staff.
This research has an important implication for the United States as the country is experiencing a nursing shortage projected to intensify as baby boomers age and the demand for
health care increases. It is imperative to study what strategies will retain nurses. The results from this study should offer strategies for employers to retain nurses in their health care agencies.
