Immaculata University Awards Jessica DeCastro A Presidential Scholarship

Immaculata University (IU) has awarded Jessica DeCastro of Laurel Springs, New Jersey one of the five Presidential Scholarships it awards each year, which will cover her tuition for all four years of her undergraduate career. These scholarships are awarded based on GPA, class rigor, standardized test scores, recommendations, and an interview with the Scholarship Committee and the chair of the department in which they wish to major.
DeCastro graduated from Paul VI High School and was a member of the National Honor Society with a 3.9 GPA. She felt that her time at the school was "very rewarding," and she appreciated not only its academic strengths but also its emphasis on values and community service.
DeCastro felt drawn to Immaculata University because of its values and strengths that were similar to those of her high school and her family.
"The school stressed the importance of community, academics, and faith," she said. "As soon as I visited the school and toured the campus, I knew I could see myself being part of this community." She appreciated the small classes and welcoming faculty she met. She continued her college search, but she noticed that she was comparing other schools to Immaculata.
"Immaculata had set the bar, and after a short time, I realized that my initial instincts were correct and that Immaculata was a perfect fit for me," she said.
Despite being nervous about her interview with the Scholarship Committee as part of her application for the Presidential Scholarship, DeCastro had a relaxed conversation with the group about Immaculata, her high school career, and her involvement with her softball team and community activities. She intends to major in nursing, and she also interviewed with the Nursing Department, discussing her interest in the field and what skills she has to offer as a nurse.
"I was extremely happy to receive the Presidential Scholarship to attend my number one choice for college," DeCastro commented. "It was a thrill not only for me but also for my entire family."
Immaculata University, a Catholic comprehensive, coeducational institution, is located 20 miles west of Philadelphia, south of the intersection of routes 30 and 352, between Paoli and Exton.
