Fashion Student Selected for Design Exhibit

Monroe County resident (from Tobyhanna, PA) and Immaculata University student Danielle Palmisano ’14 was selected from among 300 entrants to exhibit at the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Design Exhibit.  The 2013 ITAA Annual Conference and Design Exhibit takes place October 15-18, in New Orleans.

Beginning her senior year at Immaculata, Palmisano is a Fashion Merchandising major.  Her inspiration for the dress that she will exhibit at ITAA, titled Lost in Beauty, came from the famous artist Monet.

“I was inspired by the beautiful gardens and romantic movement in his paintings which captivated me,” stated Palmisano.  “The gardens that he painted and the technique that he used are captured in my design.”

The dress, completed in April 2013, debuted at the Immaculata University Fashion Show this past May. Palmisano selected a light weight satin fabric and paint suitable for use on fabric.  Using an artistic approach, she just started painting – conjuring up Monet’s dabbing technique.  “As I was painting, I was layering the paint to really accomplish Monet’s technique, a wonderful sea of colors,” commented Palmisano.

Christine Baez, director of the Fashion Merchandising Program at Immaculata, stated “I am thrilled for Danielle and excited for Immaculata University to be represented and recognized at ITAA.  It is an honor.”

“I am extremely happy and honored that I was selected.  It’s not something that I was expecting so that was a nice surprise,” commented Palmisano.   “It feels good knowing that all the hours spent in the sewing lab working on this dress were all worth it.”
