Colonel John Church to speak at New Jersey Veterans Home Memorial Day celebration
Immaculata University’s Assistant Professor of English Colonel John Church Jr. will speak at a Memorial Day celebration on Wednesday, May 23, held at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Vineland, with residents, their families, staff, veterans and civic groups, and local dignitaries in attendance.
The formal ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and will include a roll call of Veterans Home residents who have passed away during the previous year. As part of his tribute to veterans, Church will speak about his former neighbor Lieutenant Colonel Tim Maxwell, USMC (Ret.), whose journey of recovery from the traumatic brain injury he received in Iraq led him to found Semper Max, a nonprofit support group for wounded Marines. The Veterans Home will present Church with an honorarium that will go to Maxwell and Semper Max.
“It is an honor for me to be in the presence of these heroes,” said Church. “We owe our veterans more than we can ever repay. I am thrilled beyond what words can ever allow. With more and more veterans returning from both Iraq and Afghanistan, the contribution these men and women will make is certain to be of great importance—to our nation today and in the future.”
