On Saturday, April 13, Immaculata University hosted the seventhannual Spirituality Under the Dome event. Spirituality Under the Dome is for people who seek or wish to deepen their relationship with God in their 21st century lives. Presenters seek to nourish and support people’s expressed desire to live in meaningful relationship with God and neighbor. Participants are encouraged to walk the grounds around the 373-acre campus, unearthing deeper yearnings of the heart under the dome at Immaculata University.

Highlights for the event were two keynote presenters and numerous workshops. Brother Mickey O’Neill McGrath, OSFS, an Oblate of St. Frances DeSales, presented “Lighten up and Pray.” Brother McGrath is an award-winning artist and author of 11 books. His presentation discussed the connections between art and religious faith. The featured speaker for the afternoon session was Clare Gavin who presented “Stories and Songs: A Sacred Concert,” which wove her personal spirituality into song and music. Gavin is a singer-songwriter with a recent CD release titled “Called to the Quiet.”

The following is a list of workshops that were offered:

“Open the Door” by Louis P. DeAngelo, Ed.D.

“Something Kept Them from Recognizing Him” by Sister Marie Michele Donnelly, RSM

“Ordinary Mystics: Finding God in the Dishes, the Laundry, and the Breaking of the Bread” by Michelle M. Franci-Donnay

“Workers in the Vineyard” by Sister Mary McGarrity, IHM

“From the Table of the World” by Stephen D. Miles, Ph.D.

“Ignatian Spirituality: Ignatian Concepts of Spiritual Consolation and Desolation” by William Plunkert

Poetry Month at Immaculata University featured a celebration of “Sense of Place,” readings by three local poets on Tuesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Loyola Hall on the University’s campus.

The evening focused on the works of poets, all of whom are graduates of La Salle University, who write about the Philadelphia neighborhoods in which they grew up. Each reader brought his personal style to familiar themes.

Joseph A. Chelius was Bucks County Poet Laureate in 2000 and has published two chapbooks: Taking Pictures and Row House Yards. His first full-length collection is scheduled for publication later this year. David Livewell returned to read at Immaculata. Since his last visit, his collection Shackamaxon was published and was awarded the T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize. The third reader was Eugene Halus, associate professor of politics at Immaculata. His poems have appeared in a number of small journals and he was formerly the managing editor of The Four Quarters Magazine.

The evening entertained audiences with familiar ideas about home and memory, and some new poetry as well. For further information, contact Sister Marie Hubert Kealy, IHM, in the English/Communication Department, at 610-647-4400, ext. 3720 or mkealy@immaculata.edu.

Immaculata University’s Children’s Theatre presents “Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures” as its annual production. Performances are Wednesday, March 20, through Saturday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. and again on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. in Alumnae Hall Theater. Sister Marcille McEntee, IHM, is the director of the Children’s Theatre and this production.

Based on a series of books by Lois Lowry, “Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures” is the story of a new student, Gooney Bird Greene, who dresses in outrageous outfits, and speaks with confidence. She casts herself as the hero in the most outlandish stories about her life including how she arrived from China on a flying carpet. But are these stories true? Of course they are, for Gooney Bird only tells “absolutely true stories!” Gooney Bird’s flair for storytelling awakens the students’ imaginations and inspires them to tell their own true life tales.

Tickets are $10 for adults; $7 for students; and $5 for senior citizens (over 65). Group rates (10 or more) are also available. For more information, please call 610-647-4400, ext. 3731 or email cctheatre@immaculata.edu.
