IMMACULATA UNIVERSITY’S MIGHTY MACS RACE TEAM TO COMPETE FOR CLASS 5 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN AMSOIL OFFSHORE POWERBOAT SERIES SANCTIONED BY OPA

Immaculata University (IU) is pleased to announce the institution’s sponsorship of the Outrageous Offshore Race Team to now be known as Immaculata University’s Mighty Macs Offshore Race Team for the 2011 Amsoil Offshore Powerboat Series sanctioned by the Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA).

IU’s race team, consisting of Throttleman Eddie Simmons and Driver Mark Henderson, will begin their quest for the Class 5 National Championship at the Sunny Isles Offshore Challenge June 17-19 in Sunny Isles, Florida.

Immaculata University is located 20 miles west of Philadelphia on the Mainline and is considered to be the birthplace of modern college women’s basketball. The Mighty Macs won the National Women’s College Basketball Championships in 1972, 1973 and 1974 (yearofthemightymacs.com). The feature film, The Mighty Macs, which is based on Immaculata’s first national championship women’s basketball season, opens nationwide in October and will have its world premiere on October 14, 2011 at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall in Philadelphia, Pa.

“We are looking forward to a winning offshore racing season with Eddie Simmons and Mark Henderson,” IU’s Vice President for University Communications Bob Cole commented. “Offshore racing is an exciting sport and another extension of the Immaculata University brand. With people flocking to beaches up and down the eastern coast and other U.S. waterways, we can think of no better place to market Immaculata this summer.”
