Application Process
Applying to the Graduate Music Therapy program has two components. First, you must apply to the College of Graduate Studies (CGS). An application packet is available online or from Sandra Rollison in the admissions office (610-647-4400 ext. 3215).
In addition to applying to the CGS, you must arrange an audition/interview with Dr. Tony Meadows at
ameadows@immaculata.edu or 610-647-4400 ext. 3159. Auditions/interviews can be made directly with Dr. Meadows throughout the year.
In order to be admitted into the Music Therapy Program, students must be admitted into the CGS and pass the graduate audition.
The Audition and Interview
The audition has three main components:
-
Presenting three pieces from the “classical” repertoire on your major instrument. Accompaniment is preferred, when needed, but memorization is not necessary.
-
Presenting your skills on guitar and piano by singing and accompanying yourself. “Popular” repertoire (e.g. songs from the 1940s to the present; songs you have composed, children’s songs, etc.) is preferred.
-
An interview in which we ask you about your career goals, your interest in Immaculata, and your knowledge of music therapy, among other things.
We also give you an opportunity to ask us questions about the program. Auditions last for one hour.
Please note that many students enter the music therapy program as strong musicians but may not be skilled guitarists or pianists. We understand this and do not expect all applicants to be strong in these areas in order to be admitted into the program. This component of the audition allows us to evaluate the number of music skills courses required to meet the music competencies set forth by AMTA.
