Advanced Training
The 48-credit Master of Arts in Music Therapy has been developed for the music therapist who wishes to develop greater breadth and depth of knowledge as a clinician, with a special emphasis on music psychotherapy. Program highlights include:

Advanced courses in individual and group improvisation, use of songs and music and imagery (12 credits)

Training in client assessment in music therapy

Advanced verbal skills courses

Advanced music skills courses

Supervision of clinical practice, at an advanced level

Courses in psychology (nine credits) that support the core music therapy courses

Nine credits of electives

Courses taught in evening and intensive formats

Faculty who draw upon extensive, in-depth knowledge of clinical practice. Combined, faculty have over 30 years of clinical experience.

Students meet part or all of the requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania

Board Certification (MT-BC) Training
The 60-credit Master of Arts in Music Therapy has been developed for students who hold a degree in a related field (e.g. music education, music performance or counseling) and wish to become a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) while completing an advanced degree in music therapy. Program highlights include:

Comprehensive training in didactic, medical and psychotherapeutic music therapy clinical practice

Comprehensive music skills development, with individual lessons for voice, guitar and piano, taught by music therapists

Learning experiences that are innovative, interactive, and challenging

Diverse and interesting clinical placements supported by on-site and academic supervision

Internships offered in full-time and part-time formats in a wide variety of clinical settings, under close supervision

Special community-based clinical placements offered in Jamaica, through the Jamaica Field Service Project

Music therapy courses taught in evening and retreat formats

All music therapy courses are offered at the graduate level, taught by full-time faculty

Advanced training that focuses on music-centered psychotherapy
