Lecture on Shakespeare

Enjoy a lecture on William Shakespeare by Dr. David McKnight, curator of the rare book collection at the University of Pennsylvania Library. The lecture is an introduction to the Horace Howard Furness Shakespeariana Collection at the University of Pennsylvania. The program will discuss Horace Howard Furness, his passion for Shakespeare, the state and use of the Shakespeariana Collection, and the online resources relating to the collection including a digitized copy of the First Folio.

This year is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. To mark the anniversary, the Folger Library in Washington, D.C., a noted collection of the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, is sharing its collection of 82 copies of the First Folio, published in 1623 (the first printing of Shakespeare’s collected plays) by sending a copy of the Folio to each state for exhibit.
