Spirituality Day Speaker Brother Mickey McGrathAbout the Speaker: Brother Mickey O'Neill McGrath, OSFS

Brother Mickey McGrath, an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, lives and works in Camden, N.J. He is an award-winning artist, author, and speaker whose work celebrates the deep connections between art, beauty, and religious faith. In addition to painting on commission for churches and schools, Brother Mickey is currently leading an ongoing mural painting project at Joseph’s House, a homeless shelter in Camden, with the help of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. He has also created paintings for Catholic Relief Services, which are featured in their video series on Catholic Social Teaching.

Brother Mickey is a popular presenter at conferences and retreats throughout the U.S. and Canada, at which he shares his colorful interpretations of stories from the Gospels and the lives of the saints, focusing on the healing power of the creative spirit dwelling within each of us—a refreshing blend of humor and depth.

In 2015, his book Good St. John XXIII (Clear Faith Publishers) won first place in the spirituality category from both the Catholic Press Association and the Association of Catholic Publishers; also in 2015, Dear Young People: Inspirations From Pope Francis for Everyone (World Library Publications), won a silver medal from the Moonbeam Children’s Spiritual Books Association.

In 2013 and 2014, Saved by Beauty: The Spirituality of Dorothy Day and Go to Joseph (both World Library Publications) each won multiple awards from the Catholic Press Association and the Association of Catholic Publishers. One of Brother Mickey’s recent publications, Be Who You Are: The Spirit of Saint Francis de Sales in Words and Illuminations (Clear Faith, 2016), which is a collection of illustrated quotes and essays inspired by St. Francis de Sales, was awarded a bronze prize by the Illumination of Christian Publishers Group. Most recently, in June 2017, the Catholic Press Association awarded this book first place for best book by a small publisher.

In February 2017, WLP released Our Common Home, a collection of illuminations inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si.
