Education Programs Admission Requirements

Formal Acceptance

Teaching is a profession that requires selective admission criteria and a rigorous course of study.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has established requirements for certification to teach in Pennsylvania. To prepare you to meet these requirements, Immaculata University has developed criteria for formal admission to undergraduate teacher preparation programs leading to certification. Formal acceptance is conditional upon meeting and maintaining requirements throughout the degree program.

In October 2014, the Pennsylvania General Assembly enacted Act 168 (24 P.S. § 1-111.1). Specifically, Act 168 requires an assessment of basic skills to be completed by preparation candidates prior to entry into a Pennsylvania baccalaureate teacher preparation program.

Students with 48 or more credit hours must achieve the following to be formally admitted to the program. Individuals who have not been formally admitted by the time they have earned 60 credits will not be permitted to continue in education majors.

  • Earned a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Passing Basic Skills Tests:
    • If you earn a minimum SAT combined score of 1500, you are exempt from taking the PAPA/CORE Reading, Writing, and Math exams.
    • ACT Minimum Combined Score of 23: Scoring 22 on English/Writing and 21 on Math also applies
    • PAPA Composite Score of 686: Qualifying score per section of 220 each in Reading, Math, and Writing also applies
    • CORE Academic Skills for Educators Composite Score of 475: passing score for Reading 156, Writing 162, and Math 150 also applies
