Program Overview

Immaculata’s Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity will prepare you to assess the vulnerability and security needs of computer network systems, design broad security solutions, recommend required changes for your organization, and manage the implementation of security systems, including policies and procedures.

This degree will prepare emerging professionals for a field that is increasingly important in this rapidly changing world. This interdisciplinary program will help you develop quantitative and technical abilities along with skills in critical thinking, communication, and ethical reasoning. This approach helps you develop according to Immaculata’s traditions of responsibility, leadership, and service to the world.

Program Highlights

Our instructors are all subject matter experts in the field of cybersecurity and bring a wealth of experience to every class. The six cybersecurity courses take students through the phases of assessing a system’s vulnerability, building defenses in depth, and utilizing forensics. Immaculata also offers a unique course in open source intelligence that few programs currently offer. This course explains techniques to improve the collection and analysis of open source information to generate intelligence.

An advisory board, made up of experienced cybersecurity consultants, guides and supports the program.

Career Potential

Cybersecurity professionals are currently in high demand to safeguard data and protect organizations from hacking. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts that the employment of cybersecurity professionals will increase by 28 percent from 2016 to 2026, a rate much faster than the average for all occupations. The median salary for cybersecurity professionals is more than $90,000 per year.

If you choose to continue your studies, this major will also prepare you for pursuing a graduate degree in cybersecurity.

Credit for Prior Learning

If you already have an associate degree in a related major (e.g., information technology), you will have already met many of the technical course requirements. You may also obtain college credit for learning through life experience. Military training and education, technical and professional programs, and testing through exams such as CLEP or DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) are acceptable ways of earning college credits for prior learning. Each student’s experiences are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Please contact a College of LifeLong Learning counselor for more information on CPL credit options.
