Program Overview

This 15-credit graduate certificate in Addictions Studies will help you to understand alcoholism and drug addiction and their effect on mental health and relationships. You will study psychopharmacology and counseling strategies specific to clients with addictive disorders, and you may choose from electives that cover behavioral addictions, practical uses for the 12-step program in counseling, dual diagnosis, infectious diseases, and the relationship of trauma and abuse to addiction.

This certificate allows you to concentrate in this area even if you have not completed the appropriate placements in PSYC 671, 672, and 673 or if you are studying a field other than psychology. The program is open to students with or without a master’s degree.
