What are the different types of student employment programs?

At Immaculata University, we have two types of employment programs: the Federal Work-Study Program and Institutional Student Employment. For further descriptions of each program, visit Student Employment.

Am I eligible to work on campus?

There are five basic criteria a student needs to satisfy in order to work on campus.

  • FAFSA completed
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater
  • Full-time enrollment
  • Completed all financial aid documentation
  • Not exceeded maximum aid allowed

For further description of the above eligibility requirements, visit Student Eligibility.

How do I find a student employment position?

First, the best suggestion for locating a position on-campus is to ask yourself, what do you want to do? Immaculata offers student employment positions in nearly every facet of the University. Thus, if there is an area you are interested in, contact that department to see if a position is open. Second, many job postings are located on our Mighty Macs Monster Board, on the terrace level rotunda in Villa Maria. Additionally, the student employment coordinator in the Office of Financial Aid can provide assistance.

Once I find a position I want, what do I do?

Once you have located a position you wish to obtain, contact the designated supervisor to set up an appointment to discuss position suitability and availability.

Once I find a position and the supervisor wants to hire me, how do I get approved by Financial Aid?

If you have never worked for the student employment program, you must complete the new hire packet. The first form in this packet is the IU student employment request form which needs to be completed by you and the hiring supervisor. Next, you must sign up for an appointment with the student employment coordinator. During this meeting, your eligibility will be reviewed, the precise student employment award will be determined, and appropriate documentation will be submitted. Once everything is complete, you will receive an approval card and can begin working.

How many hours per week may I work?

There is no set number of hours per week in which you may work. Your eligibility is determined by your student employment award (i.e. $1,000). The award indicates the maximum amount of money you may earn during the academic year.

Is there a minimum or maximum amount of hours per week?

There is no minimum number of hours required. However students may not earn overtime pay; thus the maximum hours per week is 40 (even if they have not earned their entire awarded amount).

If I do not earn my entire award in the fall, will the balance be carried over to the spring?

Yes, your student employment award is for both the fall and spring semesters. The summer semester is awarded separately.

Is student employment available during the summer?

Yes, there are generally a few positions on-campus during the summer semester, provided funding is available.

Am I required to earn my full student employment award?

No. Your student employment award is the maximum amount you may earn. You are not required to earn all of it.

Can I receive a student employment award increase?

Yes. If you are getting close to your award limit, visit the student employment coordinator to see if you are eligible for an increase. If you are eligible, and there is funding left, an increase may be given.

How am I paid and when?

Student employment earnings are received as a paycheck or by direct deposit at the beginning of each month.

Will my paycheck go directly to my student account?

No, you will receive a paycheck for hours worked. If you wish to apply the monies to your account, you must deposit the paycheck and return the cash to the Bursar’s Office.

Can I have my paycheck directly deposited into my bank account?

Yes. To sign up for direct deposit, use the form located on MyIU. If you do not sign up for direct deposit, paychecks can be picked up from the Bursar’s Office.
