Mr. David Wetherill
Curtis Institute of Music
A native of Philadelphia, David Wetherill played with the Philadelphia Orchestra as co-principal horn for many years. After graduation from The Curtis Institute of Music, he joined the orchestra at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy, as first horn. Following several seasons playing with the greatest conductors and opera stars, Mr. Wetherill was invited by Pierre Boulez to play in Paris, France, with the "Ensemble Inter-Contemporain," a group of soloists dedicated to the performance of new music.
After a successful career in Europe, he returned to Philadelphia at the invitation of Maestro Eugene Ormandy to play with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He stayed for many years, enjoying the respect of his colleagues and conductors. In retirement Mr. Wetherill remains active with the horn, performing as a soloist and in chamber music. He also has begun a career as a conductor, working with various orchestras in the region, to general acclaim.
