End of June: Deadline to Complete Academic Registration for Fall, Advisor/Registrar

  • Please note, if you are not registered for classes by the above date, your housing selection may be forfeited.

Summer, Housing Assignment Confirmation Available on SSIU and Charges Posted to Student Accounts

  • Notification will be sent via IU email to students with housing assignments for 2017-2018 that the information is available

Incoming Students:

Incoming first year and transfer students will complete the necessary housing paperwork via Moodle. Students will be matched with roommates based on the information provided and will then be placed in their housing assignments throughout July and August. Students are also able to select a roommate during New Student Orientation if they meet someone who is a good fit by completing a form.

Housing Selection Steps

  1. Complete housing application online through SSIU.
  2. Recieve lottery number from Residence Life and Housing via email.
  3. Attend housing selection to select your residential housing assignment for the upcoming year.

Housing Application

Once it is available in February, you must complete a housing application through SSIU, accessible through MyIU. Applications must be submitted by the deadline in order to receive a lottery number based on your cohort. To apply, complete the steps listed below.

  1. Log on to SSIU.
  2. Once logged on, click on the Student information link.
  3. Next, click on the Housing and Meal Plan Application link.
  4. Follow the on-screen directions.

Lottery Numbers

Lottery numbers are randomly assigned within each class year (current rising seniors first, then rising juniors and then rising sophomores).

You MUST have a lottery number to participate in housing selection.  You will receive a lottery number after completing a housing application, which is done online through SSIU. If you fail to submit your housing application by the assigned date, you will not receive a lottery number.

Without a lottery number, you will not be able to participate in the housing selection process. If you are interested in housing, but did not apply for a lottery number, contact Residence Life and Housing and you will be contacted regarding available housing after selection has taken place.

Housing Selection

Housing selection will occur in April, at which point you will select your residential housing assignment for the upcoming year.

  • Housing selection takes place on a Sunday afternoon.
  • Specific times for housing selection based on lottery numbers will be posted closer to the housing selection date.
  • Determine which roommate has the LOWEST number in order to determine the time that you should attend housing selection.
  • Upon entering housing selection each student will sign their housing and board agreement for the upcoming year.
  • Every student must be represented to select his/her housing assignment at the housing selection process.
    • If you cannot attend the selection process, you can arrange for another student to represent you in the process and select your room as a proxy. A proxy form can be printed by clicking here or picked up on the bulletin board outside the Student Development and Engagement Suite.
  • Lottery numbers are called in order, students select their space, and are placed in their housing assignment by Residence Life and Housing staff.
  • Following their selection, students can leave.

Timeline

Mid March: Medical Accommodation Request Deadline, Campus Life Suite

  • New Medical Accommodation Requests must be submitted by this date to be considered for 2017-2018 assignments.

End of March: Application & Agreement Deadline, Campus Suite

  • Any student that submits his/her application and agreement after the stated deadline will be assigned beginning on Monday, April 10, 2017, and will not receive a lottery number.

Early April: Lottery Numbers Distributed via IU e-mail

  • Lottery numbers are only submitted to those who completed the application before March 30, 2017.

Early April: Medical Accommodations Assigned, Campus Life Suite

  • RLH Staff will contact individuals with completed requests for personal appointments.

Early April: Housing Selection, Great Hall

  • Refer to schedule in Lottery Number & Attendance section

**Please review the Housing and Board Agreement (to be made available at Housing Selection) to ensure that you understand that this agreement is in effect for the entire academic year; once signed and submitted this agreement will be binding for the entire academic year.**
