Common Reader

Two years ago the First Year Experience course initiated the Common Reading Program, which allows all first year students to engage in a common intellectual experience by reading a book that can be discussed throughout the first semester. The FYE instructors ask that you read a book this summer to participate in the small group discussions, large group events, and Essay Contests that will be held throughout the fall semester. The Common Reading book is part of the course requirements and is used in lieu of a textbook.

This year we are pleased to announce that first year students will have the option of choosing from two distinctly different but equally intriguing books. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and TimeQuake by Kurt Vonnegut are available to all students, and it is required that all FYE students read one of these books. Both can be purchased at the Immaculata Bookstore.
