Academic Success Center
The Academic Success Center is home to the Director of Academic Success Services, the Assistant Director, and two learning strategies specialists. The Academic Success Center (ASC) is available to serve students with a variety of academic and organizational needs by offering academic success coaching, academic accommodations, and peer tutoring. The ASC offers a variety of services for students seeking academic help, including:
Academic Coaching
Students meet individually with the learning strategies specialists to work on improving academic skills, such as:
- Time management
- Study skills
- Note-taking strategies
- Test-taking strategies
- Organization
- Short- and long-term planning
- Test anxiety
Meetings are designed to benefit the students by strengthening their academic skills so that they may make the most of their college experience.
Tutoring Services
Students can receive additional instruction in academic courses in both individual and group formats. By simply filling out a request form, tutoring can be arranged for most academic courses offered at IU absolutely free of charge.
We are always searching for good tutors in difficult subjects. Think you have what it takes? Contact tutoring@immaculata.edu for more information.
Academic Success Workshops
Workshops are held each semester on a variety of academic skills. Workshops are open to all students and, in the past, have included topics such as study skills, test-taking strategies, and test anxiety.
Academic Accommodations
Because we recognize that some students may need additional support within their learning environments, academic accommodations may be available to students with psychiatric, learning, or medical conditions in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Requests are considered on an individual basis. Contact tutoring@immaculata.edu.
First Year Experience
Transitioning to college poses a unique set of challenges and opportunities. The First Year Experience (FYE) course assists in that adjustment through classroom discussions, service learning projects, and large group activities. FYE is a mandatory one-credit course designed to help students successfully navigate the college system while growing both educationally and personally.
